Hello Parents and Students,

Due to the current number of 21 positive COVID-19 case counts, and over 150 individuals in quarantine (including key faculty and staff members), we are closing Roy High School for two weeks. Our capacity to conduct safe and effective in-person instruction is highly compromised. Monday, November 23rd, will be a day for teachers to prepare for online instruction. Actual online instruction will begin this Tuesday, November 24th. Students are scheduled to return to school in-person on Monday, December 7th. Students are asked to check their emails and Canvas beginning Monday for instructions and messages from teachers.

To review the specifics regarding what leads to a closure, refer to page 95 in the COVID-19 School Manual. According to the manual, an outbreak is defined when 15 people test positive for COVID-19 across multiple settings in the school (more than one classroom) and are counted by the same time period. For example, 15 students and teachers in different classes in the school test positive within two weeks of each other.

During the closure, the building will be disinfected and sanitized according to our Safe Weber Framework:

A couple of important items to know with regards to this soft closure:

  • This is not considered a quarantine for all students in the school. This is a preventative measure to help slow the spread of COVID-19 by reducing the number of people in the school. Any students who have been quarantined to this point by the Weber-Morgan Health Department are still considered quarantined until their release date. If your child is ever exposed at school to someone who has tested positive for COVID, we will contact you directly regarding the quarantine requirements.

  • During the soft closure, all students are expected to attend and participate online with their classes during the designated times. This should be done via Google Meet with the teachers. Check their Canvas sites for more information. We are going to follow the schedule below each day:          

1st/5th period: 8:30am - 9:15am

2nd/6th period: 9:30am - 10:15am

3rd/7th period: 10:30am - 11:15am

4th/8th period: 11:30am - 12:15pm

  • Tuesday, November 24th, is an A day. There will be no online classes held from November 25th -27th because of the Thanksgiving break.                      

  • During this soft closure, do not consider this a "Work at your own pace" situation. Be diligent about engaging in your Google Meets and completing the assignments. We want you all to continue the second quarter on the right academic path.

  • Communication is going to be key with your teachers. If there are questions or concerns, ask early, and get help. Teachers are available from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm for individual online meetings as needed, by appointment.

  • Students who test positive for Covid-19 during the soft closure should still report this outcome to the school for tracking purposes. Accurate and timely reporting will help us make prudent and safe decisions going forward. We are still conducting contact tracing and expect to have additional students and staff placed on quarantine. We also anticipate that we will receive additional positive COVID cases.

  • The current Driver’s Ed November class will continue through Google classroom. Mr. Hokanson will be sending out information. Range and Road tests will still continue as scheduled unless a student is quarantined and can’t participate at this time. Students are required to wear masks.

  • All UHSAA athletics and other extra-curricular activities have also been suspended for two weeks under the Governor’s mandate which was issued on November 8th. No tryouts, practices or games will be held until the mandate has been lifted. This order is in effect through November 23rd. We will provide more information on this order as it becomes available to us.

  • The Seminary building will also be closed as part of the soft closure. Seminary teachers will contact their students.

  • Project Lead the Way students will not be allowed to attend classes in-person at Weber Innovation and will engage with their teachers virtually during the duration of the soft closure. Students attending Two Rivers will still be provided busing to and from the school.

  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided to students at Roy's hub pick-up site, Roy Jr., daily from 10:00-10:30 AM. Parents must pre-order meals via the Parent Portal. 

  • Students who need to access their school supplies for online learning may access the building on Monday the 23rd between 8:00 and 10:00. Visits to get supplies should be a quick in and out. 

  • We will continue to work closely with officials from the Weber Morgan Health Department in monitoring this situation and we will provide updates as needed.

We would like to remind everyone to continue to be vigilant in following current health guidelines by wearing face coverings, practicing good hygiene and physically distancing from others to prevent the spread of COVID-19. We look forward to getting our students back to school. Please continue to do your part as we move through this soft closure.
